Winnipeg Man Arrested for Armed Robbery at Local Gaming Room

A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an armed robbery that took place at a local gaming room earlier this month.

On the evening of May 16, 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a robbery at a hotel gaming room located in the 600 block of Berry Street. The victim, a 59-year-old man, was playing Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs) when he was approached by an adult male suspect. The suspect engaged the victim in conversation before producing a machete and robbing him of approximately $130. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. The victim was left uninjured.

The suspect, later identified as Norman Glen Beardy of Winnipeg, returned to the same business on May 26, around 6:30 p.m. to play VLTs. He was recognized by staff members as the individual involved in the previous robbery. The staff immediately alerted the police, but BEARDY managed to flee the scene before officers arrived.

However, at approximately 7:45 p.m., officers located Beardy in the 1800 block of Ellice Avenue and arrested him without incident. A machete, believed to be the weapon used in the robbery, was found concealed on his person and was seized as evidence.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and has since charged Beardy for his alleged involvement with Robbery, Possession of a Weapon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Failure to Comply with a Probation Order. He is currently being held in custody.
