On the evening of July 8, 2024, a chilling incident unfolded on the 3300 block of Portage Avenue. A male suspect, later identified as Kyle Thomas Quill, 39, of Winnipeg, approached an adult female. After engaging her in conversation, he lured her to a nearby residence.
Police say Quill broke into the residence and barricaded the woman, preventing her from leaving. He physically and sexually assaulted her, rendering her unconscious at one point. The suspect threatened to kill her and robbed her of her property. The woman managed to escape and call the police when Quill fell asleep.
The West District General Patrol responded promptly, locating Quill asleep inside the residence. He was taken into custody without incident.
The Sex Crimes Unit was notified and has since assumed the investigation. Quill has been charged with multiple offences, including Sexual Assault, Sexual Assault by Choking, Suffocating or Strangling, Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm, Robbery, Forcible Confinement, Break, Enter and Commit – Dwelling House, Breach of Recognizance, and Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order. He remains in custody.
