Winnipeg Man Arrested After Pre-Arranged Sale Turns Violent, Leading to Serious Collision

Selkirk RCMP says a pre-arranged meeting to sell an item escalated into a violent altercation and a serious two-vehicle collision on Raleigh Street in the RM of East St. Paul on April 10, 2024. Officers have been investigating the incident and have made an arrest.

The incident began with a physical altercation between the occupants of two vehicles, a Nissan and a Dodge pickup truck. The situation quickly spiraled out of control, leading to a chase that ended in a crash.

The driver of the Nissan, a 30-year-old male from Winnipeg, has been arrested on charges of Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm and Assault with a Weapon, with four counts of each. He has since been released pending a future court date.

The four occupants of the Dodge pickup truck, also from Winnipeg, sustained non-life threatening injuries in the collision.

In light of the incident, Staff Sergeant Mitch Tkachuk of the Selkirk RCMP issued a statement urging the public to exercise caution when meeting unknown individuals for transactions. “Choose a well-lighted, highly populated area, and try not to go by yourself. Never enter another vehicle to complete a transaction. Always have a method of removing yourself from the situation if it becomes necessary to do so,” he advised.

The investigation into the incident continues as the RCMP work to piece together the events that led to the collision.
