Winnipeg Man Arrested After Loaded Sawed-Off Rifle Found in Lounge

A 32-year-old Winnipeg man is facing a slew of charges after being arrested at a downtown lounge and found to be in possession of a loaded sawed-off rifle. Tony Prince was taken into custody on February 12th at approximately 6:11 p.m. at a lounge in the 300 block of York Avenue. The arrest followed an investigation by the Guns and Gangs Unit, with assistance from the Tactical Support Team.

During the arrest, officers discovered a backpack containing the loaded sawed-off rifle and additional ammunition on Prince’s person. A 26-year-old woman, Tiana Prince, was also arrested at the scene.

The investigation has linked Tony Prince to several other incidents in early February, including a vehicle theft and a purse snatching. On February 7th, he allegedly stole keys to a grey 2022 Volkswagen Taos from a lounge in the 600 block of St. James Street. The vehicle, belonging to a 42-year-old woman, remains unrecovered. The following day, February 8th, Prince is alleged to have stolen a purse from a 19-year-old woman at a lounge in the 600 block of Erin Street. He is also suspected of using the victim’s credit card at various locations, with the total amount of fraudulent purchases under $5,000.

Tony Prince has been charged for his alleged involvement with numerous offences, including: Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm; Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition; Fail to Comply with Probation Order; Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized; Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x6); Theft Over $5000; Theft Under $5000; Fraud Under $5000; and Use of Credit Card.

Tiana Prince has been charged for her alleged involvement with: Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm; Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition; and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.

Both suspects have been detained in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
