A 27-year-old Winnipeg man is facing multiple charges after police say he was caught wielding a large machete and approaching pedestrians in a back lane early this morning.
According to Winnipeg Police Service, Central District General Patrol officers patrolled the Sherbrook Street area, between Sargent Avenue and Ellice Avenue, at approximately 2:50 a.m. on March 8, 2025. Officers observed the man riding a bicycle, holding a large machete and approaching two unsuspecting pedestrians in the back lane.
When officers attempted to intervene, the suspect fled on his bicycle, entering the rear of an apartment complex in the 400 block of Sherbrook Street. Police quickly apprehended the suspect inside the building after he reportedly offered resistance.
The machete was seized as evidence. A subsequent search of the suspect revealed a small quantity of methamphetamine.
The 27-year-old man faces a string of charges, including:
- Possession of a Weapon
- Resist Peace Officer
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order (x4)
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x2)
The man was detained in custody.
