Winnipeg is extending the temporary patio program through winter

Restaurants wanting to keep their patios open this winter will be able to apply for a permit under the temporary patio program. Under the terms of the program eligible businesses will be able to operate their patios once approved with additional restrictions between November 1, 2021 until March 31, 2022.

“I am hopeful this winter patio program will help create more opportunities to increase business in a way that complies with current public health restrictions and offers a unique and enticing experience for customers,” said Cindy Gilroy, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Property and Development, Heritage and Downtown Development.

Under the winter guideline businesses will have to follow additional requirements which include permitted heating sources, size and material restrictions for tents or shelters, and requirements for snow removal.

Although the city is waving the processing fee businesses wanting to participate in the program will have to file a new application and provide supporting documentation for review and approval prior to operating during the winter period. The application process is available at winnipeg.ca/temporarypatio.

Current temporary patio permits expire on October 31.
