Winnipeg giving away free compost

The City of Winnipeg is giving away free compost from June 1 to June 7.

Residents can get up to 100 litres ( equal to about four 5-gallon pails ) of compost per vehicle while supplies last.

The compost began life as leaf and yard waste collected across the city. It was turned into nutrient-rich material that is approved for use in all household applications including vegetable gardens.

The compost giveaway is available between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm June 1-7, 2020 at the following locations:

  • Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot, 1777 Brady Rd.
  • Kilcona Dog Park, west parking lot off McIvor Avenue (line up on Norris Road, south of McIvor Avenue)
  • Summit Road closed landfill site, Summit Road north of Optimist Park

Residents must bring their own containers, shovels and gloves. Only one vehicle will be allowed per compost pile at a time.
