Winnipeg Folk Festival cancelled for the second year

The Winnipeg Folk Festival announced on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, that the event planned for July 8-11 this year has been cancelled.

“We’ve looked at every option possible, but with continued uncertainty about the pandemic restrictions that will be in place this summer, it’s simply impossible for us to safely hold an event of our size and stay true to our typical Folk Fest experience,” a statement on their website read.

The festival organizers said that they are hoping to create a new smaller-scale new musical event that will work within health restrictions.  This new event is being planned for August 13,14 and 15 at the main stage site at Birds Hill Provincial Park and would be three evenings of music.

Organizers said “We are also exploring streaming options for those who would like to participate and support the Folk Festival but may be unable or uncomfortable to attend an in-person gathering this summer.”

Organizers admit that there are still many obstacles to overcome before they can confirm the new event can go ahead but are hoping people will “save the date” should it move forward.

“While it may not be the same festival experience we’re used to, we want nothing more than to support artists and share live music with our community in the safest way we can at this time,” organizers said.
