Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service members have been busy Thursday night into Friday morning battling three structure fires.
At around 9:05 pm on Thursday, October 13, 2022, firefighters responded to a blaze in a vacant house in the 300 block of Alfred Street. This is the same house crews were at over the weekend fighting another fire.
Smoke and flames were coming from the structure as crews arrived on the scene. A defensive attack was launched and eventually transitioned to an offensive attack when conditions improved. The fire was declared under control at 9:45 pm.
No one was in the house at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Just after midnight on Friday, October 14, 2022, emergency crews were called to a multi-unit building in the 500 block of Furby Street.
Smoke and flames billowed from the building and a defensive attack was launched. The building is expected to be a total loss.
Two neighbouring houses were evacuated as a precaution.
Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services unit responded to the scene to help ten residents find alternate accommodations.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
At 5:41 a fire in a two-storey apartment building in the 100 block of Quelch Street was reported.
Firefighters set up aerial ladders and handlines to battle the fire as smoke and flames were seen coming from the building.
Crews are expected to be on the scene for most of the day Friday.
No injuries were reported
Residents of a nearby building were evacuated as a precaution.
Access to Weston School was temporarily impacted as a result of the fire.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
