Winnipeg Firefighter among two injured in Portage Avenue traffic collision

Two people were taken to hospital, including a Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Platoon Safety Officer after the emergency vehicle he was driving was involved in a collision with a minivan.

The collision occurred just before 7:30 pm on Portage Avenue at St. James Street. Fire officials told News 4 that it is believed the firefighter was responding to a nearby technical rescue when the collision occurred.

It is not known if his emergency lights and siren was activated at the time of the collision.

Paramedics treated the firefighter as well as the people who were in the minivan. The extent of their injuries are not known at this time.

Winnipeg Police are investigating the cause of the collision.
