The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) had a busy night as they responded to three separate structure fires across the city.
The first incident occurred at 9:26 p.m. on Monday, May 13, when WFPS crews were dispatched to a vacant, boarded-up two-storey residential building in the 600 block of Stella Avenue. Upon arrival, crews observed smoke emanating from the structure and initiated an external fire attack. Once conditions improved, firefighters entered the building to extinguish the remaining flames. The fire was declared under control at 10 p.m. A thorough search of the building confirmed no occupants were present, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and damage estimates are not yet available.
Shortly after midnight, at 12:57 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, WFPS crews responded to a fire at a one-and-a-half-storey house in the 700 block of Manitoba Avenue. Crews arrived on scene to find smoke billowing from the structure and launched an offensive fire attack from inside the building. The fire was declared under control at 1:17 a.m. Residents had evacuated the home prior to the arrival of WFPS crews, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no damage estimates are available at this time.
The third incident occurred at 3:18 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, when WFPS crews responded to a structure fire in a detached garage in the 600 block of St. John’s Avenue. Firefighters quickly launched a fire attack, using water and foam to extinguish the flames. The fire was brought under control by 3:39 a.m. No injuries were reported in this incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and damage estimates are not yet available.
The WFPS continues to investigate the causes of all three fires.
