City ends 2018 with $19.5 million surplus

The City of Winnipeg has released their Financial Status Report for the end of 2018 and it shows a $19.5 million surplus. In November the city was projecting a surplus of 14.2 million.

“This year-end report is a positive reflection on the City’s fiscal management throughout 2018,” said Councillor Scott Gillingham, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance. “Following positive trends in each of the preceding financial reports this past year, this report confirms the City is now able to contribute a strong surplus to the Financial Stabilization Reserve.”

The bulk of the additional savings were realized by less snow clearing than was originally forecasted.

The surplus will be transferred to the Financial Stabilization Reserve as is the policy set in place.
