WINNIPEG | CITY LOOKING FOR CHRISTMAS TREE

It’s that time to start thinking about Christmas… Ok maybe not for most of us but for officials from the City of Winnipeg’s Public Works Department now is the time they start looking for a tree for the annual display at City Hall.

If you have a large spruce tree on your property that you would like to donate to the city now is the time to drop them a line.

To be considered for the City Hall Christmas tree, a spruce tree must meet the following criteria:

  • be located in the front yard of a property with direct access to the tree
  • be 12 to 15 metres tall (approximately 40 to 50 feet)
  • be fully symmetrical with a single trunk and no brown needles

Urban Forestry Branch staff select the tree that best meets the identified criteria.

Although you won’t be paid for the tree you will have bragging rights and the ability to take selfies of the decorated tree during the holiday season at City Hall.

If your tree is chosen crews remove the tree at no cost to youas well as clean up debris and remove the stump to approximately two inches below ground level.

Homeowners who would like to submit their tree for consideration are asked to contact 311, open 24 hours every day, by phone at 311 or by email at
