The City of Winnipeg is celebrating its 150th anniversary by launching a special nomination process to recognize residents who have made significant contributions to their community. The Winnipeg 150 medals will be presented by Mayor Scott Gillingham and members of the City Council to deserving Winnipeggers.
A total of 150 medals will be awarded to community members throughout the anniversary year, honouring those who have dedicated their time and efforts to enhance the city. “As we celebrate 150 years as a city, we want to recognize the people who have dedicated their time and efforts to making Winnipeg a better place,” said Mayor Gillingham. He encouraged Winnipeggers to nominate individuals who embody the spirit of the city and have significantly impacted their neighbourhoods and the city as a whole.
Recipients of the Winnipeg 150 medals will receive a specially designed medal, a certificate signed by the Mayor, and a tree planted in their name in a City park, symbolizing their enduring contribution to the community.
Residents are invited to nominate individuals for this recognition by submitting a nomination online on or before July 15, 2024. However, current employees of the City of Winnipeg and those who have previously received awards for community service or volunteerism from the City are not eligible for nomination.
This initiative is a unique way for the City of Winnipeg to mark its 150th anniversary, recognizing the invaluable contributions of its residents in shaping the city’s vibrant and diverse community.
