Winnipeg Bungalow Fire Claims Life of Dog, Causes Significant Damage

A fire in a single-family bungalow on Arthur Wright Crescent Monday afternoon has claimed the life of a family dog and caused extensive damage to the home. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to the blaze in the 0-100 block of the crescent at 4:55 p.m. on February 17, 2025, encountering smoke billowing from the structure.

Firefighters immediately entered the residence and launched an interior attack on the fire. The frigid temperatures presented significant challenges for crews, with icy and slippery conditions surrounding the scene. The WFPS rotated crews in and out of the operation to ensure they had adequate breaks from the extreme cold.

The fire was brought under control at 6:48 p.m. Fortunately, no people were inside the house at the time of the fire, and no human injuries were reported. A search of the premises was conducted, during which firefighters discovered the body of a deceased dog.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The bungalow sustained significant damage from smoke, fire, and water.
