City snuffs out smoking on patios as of April 1st

It’s official. council has voted to ban smoking and vaping on outside patios that serve food and drinks.

Effective April 1, 2018 all tobacco products such as cigarettes, cigars, pipes, e-cigarettes, vape products cannot be consumed as part of the new by-law. The city says that once the federal government legalizes cannabis the by-law will be amended to include pot as well.

Winnipeg is the last major city in Canada to outlaw smoking on patios and according to the city a survey they conducted shows that 3 out of 4 Winnipegers are in favour of the ban.

Councillor Jason Schreyer (Elmwood-East Kildonan) and Ross Eadie (Mynarski) voted against the ban.
