Winnipeg Apartment Fire Sends Three to Hospital in Unstable Condition

A Tuesday morning apartment fire on Redwood Avenue resulted in the rescue of six residents and the hospitalization of three individuals in unstable condition, according to the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS).

Crews responded to reports of a fire at 7:39 a.m. on March 11, 2025, arriving to find smoke billowing from the building and several occupants requiring assistance.

“Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a challenging scene with smoke and residents needing immediate help,” a WFPS spokesperson stated. “Due to unsafe conditions within the building, six residents were rescued through a window.”

While some firefighters performed the daring window rescues, others worked to extinguish the blaze. The fire was brought under control by 8:10 a.m.

Paramedics assessed a total of eight individuals at the scene. Three were transported to hospital in unstable condition. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was deployed to provide temporary support to displaced residents. Winnipeg Transit also provided a bus to serve as temporary shelter for those affected by the fire.

The fire’s cause is under investigation. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
