Impaired father puts son’s life at risk
Winkler Police Service responded to reports of a drunk driver just after 9:00pm on April 8, 2017.
The caller told police that the suspect was erratically driving a lawn tractor on the road while holding a young boy in his lap.
Officers headed to the area and watched the tractor leave the roadway and proceed south on the sidewalk along Park Street.
Police pulled along side of the vehicle they activated their emergency lights and watched as the driver threw a beer on the ground. Police arrested the drunk dad after they observed he had difficulty standing and was slurring his words. As police search the man they found three unopened beers in his pockets.
He was placed in cuffs and taken to HQ where he was given a breath test that showed him well over the legal limit. Police also learned that his drivers licence had been suspended.
The 41 year old Winkler man faces charges of impaired driving, driving over .08, driving while disqualified and unlawful transportation of liquor in a motor vehicle.
He was released into the care of his wife. The young boy on his lap was not injured.
