Wildland fire spread quickly with winds gusting over 40 km/h

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a wildland fire near Centreport Canada Way and Sturgeon Access Road on Monday evening, July 5, 2021.

When crews arrived on the scene they found a fire about the size of a football field that was spreading quickly due to the winds gusting at more than 40 km/h.

Using the department’s two Bison vehicles that are specifically designed to fight these types of fires along with other wildland fire equipment the fire was contained and extinguished.

During the hight of the blaze a drone was used for situational awareness and the detection of hot spots.
