Open fires banned without a permit
The province of Manitoba and the Office of the Fire Commissioner are warning Manitobans that due to the hot and dry conditions the risk of wildfire has risen in many areas of the province.
Between April 1 and November 15 no open burning is allowed in the province without a permit.
The advisory is being put out as many people will be travelling to cottages and campgrounds over the August long weekend.
ATV users are being asked to stay on developed trails and check their vehicle exhaust and engine area often for debris. If you are going to head out on the trails riders are reminded to bring a shovel, axe and fire extinguisher with them at all times.
If you plan on heading into what is considered the backcountry a better option to campfires is using a portable camp stove. If you are heading out to remote areas it is a good idea to let someone know where you are heading and when you plan to be back.
Wildfires are dangerous. If you see a fire contact local emergency services by calling 911 or the forest fire tip line at 1-800-782-0076.
