Get ready to don your white and fill the streets! Premier Wab Kinew and Sport, Culture, Heritage and Tourism Minister Nellie Kennedy announced today that the beloved Winnipeg Jets Whiteout Street Parties will return to downtown Winnipeg this spring, bolstered by provincial government funding.
The announcement promises a vibrant atmosphere outside Canada Life Centre on Donald Street (between Portage Avenue and Graham Avenue) for every Jets home playoff game. The Manitoba government is contributing up to $300,000 to ensure fans can gather and celebrate what they hope will be their team’s deep playoff run.
“Our government is excited to help bring the Jets whiteout parties to downtown Winnipeg for what we hope is a lengthy playoff run,” Premier Kinew stated. “Not only do whiteout parties benefit downtown businesses and raise money for housing and mental health supports – they’re a fantastic way to come together as a community. Whiteout parties are a great, affordable way to experience the atmosphere of playoff hockey.”
Minister Kennedy echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the positive impact on the city’s energy. “Winnipeg has the best fans in the NHL and we can’t wait to see downtown buzzing with energy,” she said. “By partnering with True North Sports + Entertainment, we’re helping to create safe events downtown that allow neighbours to connect, support local business and create lasting memories as we support our Winnipeg Jets.”
The collaboration between the province and True North Sports + Entertainment was highlighted by Kevin Donnelly, Senior Vice-President, Venues and Entertainment for True North. “True North is grateful to the Province of Manitoba for its ongoing support of the Winnipeg whiteout street parties, the Winnipeg Jets and our fans,” said Donnelly. “Successful teams are made up of multiple players and we are glad to have Manitoba on our squad.”
For fans eager to join the electric atmosphere, tickets to the Whiteout Street Parties will be priced at $10. Importantly, half of all proceeds will be directed to the United Way to support crucial initiatives addressing chronic homelessness and expanding mental health and addictions resources in the community.
With the Jets poised for playoff action, the return of the Whiteout Street Parties, fueled by provincial support, promises to transform downtown Winnipeg into a sea of white and a hub of community spirit, all while contributing to important social causes.
Fans are encouraged to secure their tickets and prepare to cheer on their team in true Winnipeg style.
