In the early hours of July 24, 2024, a significant structure fire broke out at Westwood School in Thompson. At approximately 3:20 am, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to the scene alongside the Thompson Fire Department.
Upon arrival, officers and firefighters found the building engulfed in flames. Fortunately, it is believed that no one was inside the school at the time of the fire. Despite their efforts, the fire continued to burn throughout the morning. Additional support was provided by Vale Manitoba Operations Mine Rescue Firefighters, who joined the Thompson Fire Department in their attempts to extinguish the blaze.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation. The Thompson RCMP, in collaboration with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, are actively investigating the incident to uncover the origin and cause of the fire.
