12 centimetres of snow greeted Winnipeggers as they awoke Monday morning to the first day of Winter and more of the white stuff is on the way!
Environment Canada is forecasting a Winter storm beginning Tuesday morning, December 22, 2020, and continuing throughout the day and into Wednesday. That storm is expected to bring 15 to 25 centimetres of fresh snow.
The low pressure system will track along the international border. Snow and blowing snow is expected to be heavy at times and could bring higher amounts to some areas as it moves through southern Manitoba.
Winds are expected to gust between 60 and 70 km/h reducing visibility, especially in open areas. Blizzard conditions in some areas are possible says the national forecaster.
A Winter storm watch has been issued for most of southern Manitoba including Winnipeg.
Travel is not advised as it is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility and rapid snow accumulations.
