Winnipeg Police and the RCMP have completed the third week of holiday Checkstops and continue to catch impaired drivers.
Between December 15 and December 23, 2018, both agencies took a combined 31 people off the road for driving while impaired.
Here is how the numbers broke down
Winnipeg – 2007 cars checked
183 Roadside breath tests administered resulting in 13 warns and 3 fail
10 Impaired driving-related charges (1 Drug Impaired Driver)
1 Cannabis positive Oral Fluid Device test
62 Provincial Offence Act tickets were issued
Police say that one of the persons charged with impaired had a blood alcohol level that is more than three times the legal limit .290 mg%
RCMP – 4000 vehicles checked in 68 different Checkstops
- 21 people charged with Impaired Driving (Alcohol)
- 2 people charged with Refusing a Breath Demand
- The highest blood/alcohol reading reported was .220 mg % (almost three times the legal limit)
- 6 alcohol-related tiered suspensions
- 1 drug-related tiered suspension
- 12 people charged with improper storage of alcohol or cannabis in a vehicle
