Winnipeg Police say that around 2:30 am Sunday morning, July 30, 2107, officers were conducting a Road Watch check stop near Portage Avenue and Raglan Road when they flagged over a truck.

Officers noticed two occupants inside the truck were acting suspiciously as they approached. As they got nearer the officers noticed a firearm inside the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle located a scoped .22 calibre semi-automatic rifle as well as various types of ammunition and three knives.

Both the driver and passenger were taken into custody and charged with weapon related offences including unauthorised possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon and transporting firearm, weapon or ammunition in a careless manner.

The 17 and 18-year-old males were released on a promise to appear in court.
