Bad driving leads to weapons and drug charges

Police say that on Monday night, December 10, 2018, they noticed a suspicious male get into a vehicle on Pembina Highway. The vehicle drove off but quickly made several infractions of the Highway Traffic Act causing police to make a traffic stop.

The passenger, the man police first noticed, was identified and police learned he had two outstanding warrants and placed him under arrest.

A search of the suspect uncovered an improvised shotgun, a crossbow, three large machetes, two replica firearms, three fireworks, a round of ammunition, plastic composite knuckles, methamphetamine (2.5 grams) and illegal marijuana (14.5 grams).

Eric Lloyd Klaprat, 38 from Winnipeg, has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x4)
  • Possession of a Weapon (x3)
  • Possession of Scheduled Substance-Methamphetamine
  • Adult Possession of Cannabis Known to be Illicit (Cannabis Act)

He was detained in custody.
