Brandon man facing weapons and drug charges after traffic stop

Late Friday night, january 11, 2019, Brandon Police Service officers stopped a vehicle that had inactive registration in the 200 block of 27th Street.

The driver of the vehicle, as it turned out, was on a recognizance order and was not permitted to communicate with his female passenger. Officers placed him under arrest for breaching that order.

A search of his vehicle after his arrest uncovered a syringe full of Methamphetamine in a bag the female passenger was holding that belonged to the driver, a .45 calibre handgun and a case containing ammunition. Police determined that the firearm had been stolen from a Dauphin home in 2016.

The 35-year-old male from Hartney, Manitoba charged for his alleged involvement with Breach of Recognizance x 2, Careless Transportation of a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possess Firearm knowing it is Unauthorized, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Vehicle, Possess a Loaded Restricted Firearm, Possess Weapon obtained by Crime, Possession of Methamphetamine.

He was detained in custody at the Brandon Correction Centre.
