Weapons charges laid after distressed male threatens suicide

Around 8:30 am Saturday morning, March 7, 2020, police responded to the report of a male threatening suicide at a home on Arlington Street.

Officers shut down traffic on the road between Ellice Avenue and St. Matthews Avenue for several hours during the incident.

Eleven people were removed from the residence say police. They were placed in a Winnipeg Transit bus temporarily for shelter.

In a search of the home officers found a loaded, sawed-off shotgun.

Two residents of the home, a 51-year-old male and a 27-year-old male, have both been charged for their alleged involvement with Careless storage of a firearm, Possession of a Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon.

Both were detained in custody.
