Air-1 watches person “hide” rifles on roof during gunshot call

Winnipeg Police have arrested five people after receiving reports of yelling and multiple gunshots in the St. Johns neighbourhood late Sunday night, April 14, 2019.

As officers flooded the area, Air-1 began a search of the neighbourhood and noticed a person open a window and place what looked like two rifles on the roof below.

A few minutes later the weapons were taken back inside the house.

Officers were directed to the home and a number of people were taken into custody.

A search uncovered multiple weapons including:

  • A .22 calibre semi-automatic rifle
  • A .22 calibre lever action rifle
  • A .30 calibre bolt-action rifle
  • A 12-gauge pump action shotgun with a sawed-off barrel
  • A .410 bore bolt action shotgun with a sawed-off barrel
  • A compound bow
  • A high-capacity .22 calibre ammunition magazine
  • Eight small calibre ammunition cartridges
  • A .30 calibre ammunition cartridge

Russell Ducharme, 19 and a 17-year-old male from Grand Rapids face a number of weapons-related charges for their alleged involvement. The 17-year-old also was charged with Fail to Comply with Sentence.

Both were detained in custody.

Three others were released on a promise to appear. A 16-year-old female, a 22-year-old female and a 45-year-old female are facing weapons charges.
