Canupawakpa First Nation man busted with machete in his pants

Brandon Police have arrested and charged a 21-year-old male from Canupawakpa First nation after encountering him at about 2;00 pm on Saturday, January 12, 2019.

An officer noticed two men walking on 11th street and recognized one of them as a man wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant.

The men were stopped by officers and when asked his identity the man with the warrant lied and gave police a fake name. Officers were able to confirm the man’s actual identity by his tattoos.

He was arrested for the outstanding warrants and searched.

Police say the search uncovered that the suspect was hiding a machete down the front of his pants earning him a number of new charges including:

  • Public Mischief
  • Possess Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Carry Concealed Weapon
  • Breach of Recognizance
  • Breach of Probation

The accused was detained in custody.
