Weapons and drugs seized after a police pursuit on Sandy Bay First Nation

Manitoba First Nations Police Service arrested two people after a pursuit in Sandy Bay First Nation on September 29, 2020.

Around 12:40 am police were told of a possible impaired driver in the community. Officers located the vehicle a short time later on Main Road and Ridge Road. A traffic stop was initiated but the driver sped off. Officers pursued until the driver of the fleeing vehicle hit an embankment and stopped.

The male and female occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody.

Police noticed empty liquor containers, small baggies containing a crystal-like substance thought to be Meth and powder thought to be Cocaine. A search of the vehicle also netted the officers a spent 9mm shell casing, a loaded semi-automatic rifle with a 17 round magazine, a bag containing two boxes of 9mm rounds and a pistol magazine.

A 23-year-old male from Sandy Bay First Nation has been charged for his alleged involvement with Flight from Police, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a prohibited Weapon as well as several other firearm related offences•Multiple breaches of court ordered conditions.

He was remanded into custody.

A 30-year-old female from Sandy Bay First Nation was charged for her alleged involvement with Flight from Police, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Multiple Firearm related offences.

She was released with conditions and will appear in court at a later date.
