Male charged after police find rifle hidden in his pant leg

Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged a 22-year-old male with a number of weapons-related offences.

Officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit noticed a taxi driving evasively near Main Street and College Avenue. As police tried to stop the vehicle two passengers in the back seat opened the doors of the cab while it was still moving and tried to walk away.

On one of the males, officers saw what appeared to be the grip of a firearm. Both suspects were taken into custody.

A search of the man with the suspected weapon turned up a .22 calibre lever-action rifle hidden in his pant leg.

The male was detained in custody.

The other male in the cab was released without charges
