Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) received a call just after 5:00 pm on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, that a person was spotted in the Red River and currents were sweeping them away.
The individual was located quickly and was about 7.5 meters (25 feet) from shore. Rescuers were able to bring the person to safety.
How the the person ended up in the river or how long they were in the water us unknown. Paramedics took the person to hospital in unstable condition.
WFPS says that at this time of year all waterways and ponds in the city are not safe to walk on. Ice conditions are dangerous as the ice is thin.
