RCMP say a wanted man tried to flee from officers executing an arrest warrant and rammed into a police cruiser in an attempt to flee and avoid arrest.
According to the RCMP, on December 19, 2023, officers went to a Mitchell, Manitoba residence to arrest the 32-year-old man. The man left the residence, got into a vehicle and tried to drive off. Police blocked the suspect in at which point he refused to stop and rammed into the police vehicle causing significant damage.
The collision caused the suspect’s vehicle to become inoperable and the man was taken into custody. The vehicle the suspect tried to flee in was confirmed to be stolen
On top of the 26 charges Steven Wiebe was wanted on RCMP laid the following additional charges:
- Assault on a Peace Officer
- Assault with a Weapon
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Resisting Arrest
- Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Prohibited
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Fail to Comply
Wiebe was detained in custody.
