Winnipeg Police are looking for a man who allegedly attacked two police officers in an attempt to get away, cutting one of them with a knife in December 2017 then skipping his court date on Wednesday, November 28, 2018.
Police say that on December 1, 2018, Corey Clifford Whitford was seen by an off-duty police officer looking inside his personal vehicle and preparing to break in. The officer identified himself to the suspect and while attempting to restrain him Whitford allegedly pulled a knife and lunged at the officer cutting him in the arm. The suspect fled and the injured officer pursued calling 911 on his cell phone.
Whitford was arrested a short distance away by other on-duty officers but during his arrest, he allegedly assaulted one of the arresting officers and tried to get away. The officer who was cut by the knife was treated in hospital and released the other officer was not injured.
Whitford was charged for his alleged involvement in the incident with Assault Peace Officer With a Weapon, Assault With a Weapon, Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Escape Lawful Custody and Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking.
He was scheduled to appear in court on November 28, 2018, but did not show up. A warrant for his arrest has been issued and police are asking the public for help in locating him.
Whitford stands 5’8″ tall, weighs 208 lbs with a heavy build has brown hair (possibly a shaved head) and brown eyes.
