Driver takes risk crossing lake on trip to do laundry
It was a scary trip as two people attempted to cross Lake Winnipeg in their vehicle Tuesday March 14, 2017.
The passenger Ko’ona Cochrane was recording the crossing on her smart phone when the situation turned extremely dangerous. As the vehicle was crossing the lake near Hecla Island the ice gave way and the truck plunged into lake leaving the occupants only seconds to escape before the truck was fully submerged.

Police say that the area which the pair decided to cross at was not part of the Ice Road system and was not signed to warn of dangerous ice conditions. Water under the ice this time of year is moving quickly under the ice causing unstable conditions.
