Two officers briefly hospitalized, investigation underway
A police car involved in a pursuit was slammed into about 10 p.m. last night at Pritchard Ave. and Mackenzie St. in the city’s north end. The crash was recorded as it happened:
Police say the whole thing started shortly after 10:00 pm when officers saw a vehicle near Powers St. and Magnus Ave. driving erratically at high speed. They stopped the vehicle at Magnus and McGregor but when they approached it the vehicle took off and a pursuit began. It continued for a short time ending with the crash. People from the black sedan bailed and took off on foot. They were tracked by the K9 unit and were found in the 700 block of Redwood Avenue.
The two officers inside the cruiser that was hit were reportedly stuck in the vehicle for some time, and once freed, were taken to hospital but later released. The extent of their injuries hasn’t been disclosed.
The investigation into the incident continued into Friday morning, with the streets blocked to traffic.
There’s no word yet on the state of the driver of the sedan. Police have said a number of people are being questioned, but haven’t released any details of what charges might flow from this incident.
