A Via Rail train has derailed 37 kilometres north of Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan just after 3:00 am Thursday, July 5, 2018.
Two crew members suffered minor injuries after two locomotives and a baggage car derailed and fell onto their sides due to washed out tracks. The other five cars that had 16 passengers and three crew members onboard remained upright. None of the passengers were hurt.

The Transportation Safty Board (TSB) says that the train was travelling just over 50 kph when it came upon the washed out section of track near Otosquen, Sask. The area of the crash is remote without road access. Everyone on the train was taken to the Hudson Bay Health Care facility and cleared and will be taken to Winnipeg until new transportation arrangements can be made.
Via Rail has suspended service between Winnipeg and Gilliam, Manitoba until further notice.
The TSB has sent investigators from Winnipeg to the scene.
