Winnipeg Police are reminding drivers to never leave keys in a vehicle that is unattended.
Vehicles continue to be stolen that have been left running or when drivers leave the keys inside them.
According to statistics from Manitoba Public Insurance nearly 2800 vehicles were stolen in Manitoba last year that involved keys. and more than 1500 involved keys left inside the vehicle.
Winnipeg Police say that property crimes are preventable and that you can do a number of things to keep your vehicle and contents safe.
- Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running or the keys are in the ignition.
- Never leave spare keys inside your vehicle
- Never leave valuables on display inside your vehicle
- Never leave children or pets in a vehicle that is unattended.
- Consider installing an alarm system
- Consider installing a remote starter
- Always use a Steering Wheel lock
