RCMP have arrested and charged a 45-year-old Rorketon, Manitoba man after he chased down the man who repossessed his pickup truck on Saturday morning, Novembe 4, 2023.
Police say that they received reports that a vehicle was ramming a vehicle on rural Highway 276 north of St. Rose du Lac. Officers responded and located the two vehicles speeding on the highway with the car swerving all over the road. Both vehicles appeared to have significant damage.
Officers pulled the vehicles over and took the driver of the pickup into custody without incident. The driver of the car however refused to allow the officers to place him in handcuffs. One of the officers attempting to arrest the man was injured. The suspect was eventually placed in custody.
A search of the vehicles was conducted and a firearm was found in each.
Police say that during the investigation they learned that the driver of the pickup truck had gone to a Rorketon residence to repossess the pickup truck. When he drove away with the vehicle the driver in the car followed, passed the pickup, then slammed on his brakes in order to make the pickup stop. At the same time the driver of the car pointed a firearm at the driver og the truck. As the pickup fled the driver of the car rammed the vehicle into the truck.
Police say that they have confirmed that during the chase shots were fired at the truck.
Further investigation revealed that the gun found in the truck belonged to the driver of the car.
The driver of the truck and an adult female passenger in the car were released without any charges.
The driver of the car was charged for his alleged involvement with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Pointing Firearm, Discharge Firearm, Unsafe Storage of Firearm, and Unauthorized Possession of Firearm. He was released at the scene and was then taken by ambulance to hospital for minor injuries.
The police officer injured in the arrest was treated and released from hospital.
RCMP continue to investigate.
