Man drives up onto sidewalk and hits male with vehicle

Winnipeg Police have arrested a 37-year-old male after he drove up onto a sidewalk and hit another male with his vehicle.

Police say that it all began Friday evening, July 6, 2018, when the suspect and victim got into a verbal argument in the Central Park area. Both men got into the suspect’s vehicle at which time the victim was threatened. From there the pair drove to the 400 block of Ferry Road and more threats were made before both men got into a physical fight. They both drove back in the suspect’s car after the mutual altercation and drove back to the Central Park area.

The victim then left the vehicle and began walking away.

It is at this point that the suspect drove his vehicle onto the sidewalk hitting the victim and causing a number of injuries.

Police in the area heard a vehicle revving its engine yelling and tires squealing. They saw the injured victim stumbling and witnesses told them the suspect had driven off.

As officers were investigating the suspect vehicle returned to the scene and the driver was arrested.

The 30-year-old victim was taken to hospital in stable condition. The suspect was also taken to hospital with minor injuries and was treated then released.

Eyasu Gidyelew is facing charges for his alleged involvement of Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle Cause Bodily Harm, Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm.

He was detained in custody.
