Vacant house ordered demolished as firefighters put out hotspots from afternoon blaze

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is bringing in heavy equipment to demolish a vacant Selkirk Avenue so they can extinguish hotspots.

Just after 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 21, 2020 firefighters were called to a structure fire in a vacant bungalow in the 700 block of Selkirk Avenue.

When crews arrived they found the fire had extended to two nearby houses – one of which had been damaged in a previous fire, the other was occupied.

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the structure with the original fire. Crews attacked all three structures bringing the extended fires under control quickly. The main structure fire was declared under control at 3:38 pm.

WFPS ordered the building demolished so that firefighters could continue to put out hotspots.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
