Vacant house fire on Simcoe Street under investigation

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire in a vacant two-storey house in the 300 block of Simcoe Street just before 9:00 am on Friday, April 9, 2020.

As firefighters arrived on scene they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure.

Crews launched an offensive attack but were forced out of the building as conditions deteriorated. As they transitioned to a defensive attack firefighters were also working to protect two neighbouring homes.

After the fire was knocked down it was safe for crews to re-enter the structure and put out any hotspots.

Resident from the neighbouring home had been evacuated during the fire and were able to return to their homes once crews completed their work on the fire.

The blaze was declared under control at 10:22 am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
