The large rain storm that mover across Winnipeg on the afternoon of Wednesday June 21, 2017 knocked out power at a wastewater pump station causing it to overflow according to the city.
About 2.7 megalitres of sewage made it’s way into the river before crews were able to get an emergency generator in place. The city says that once power was restored crews did not operate the positive gate because of fear of basement flooding.
The spill has been reported to the province as required.
