RCMP and Winnipeg Police spent the last day searching for a stolen unmarked police vehicle that was stolen from a Weston Avenue business on Tuesday morning, September 20, 2022.
The vehicle belonged to the RCMP and was at the business undergoing regular maintenance. Just before 11:00 am the suspect walked into the business, took the keys and stole the vehicle.
Police say they believe that the theft appears to have been one of opportunity and although there were no police uniforms, firearms, protective vests, nor any other weapons within the vehicle it was equipped with red and blue emergency lighting.
Police say that they do not believe the vehicle was stolen by the suspects to impersonate a police officer.
On Wednesday evening, September 21, 2022, members of the Winnipeg Police Service located the unmarked vehicle abandoned on Gallagher Avenue in Winnipeg.
Police say that at this time no arrests have been made but the investigation is continuing.
