Unattended cooking blamed for El Tassi Drive fire

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to an alarm at a four-storey apartment block on El Tassi Drive Thursday night, February 27, 2020.

The call came in just after 9:00 pm and fire officials say the building’s sprinkler system was able to keep the fire from spreading until emergency crews arrived.

The people inside the structure were able to get out before firefighters arrived.

Paramedics took one person to hospital in unstable condition.

An offensive attack was launched an the blaze was quickly brought under control.

The suite where the fire originated suffered fire, water and smoke damage. Two other suites sustained water damage.

WFPS says the cause of the fire appears to have been accidental due to unattended cooking.
