The on-going investigation into sexual assault allegations involving a former University of Manitoba professor has resulted in charges being laid say Winnipeg Police.
In June 2017 the Winnipeg Police Service Sex Crimes Unit began an investigation after a female student reported she had been sexually assaulted on a number of occasions by Steve Kirby, her jazz professor.
According to investigators, the assaults happened between September 2014 and January 2017.
Kirby left resigned of the university in June of 2017 and began teaching at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. When Berklee administration heard about the allegations surrounding Kirby he was terminated.
Kirby, 62, was officially charged for his alleged involvement on May 9, 2018. He was charged with Sexual Assault and then released on a promise to appear.
The Sex Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the case as is asking anyone with information that can help them to call 204-986-6245.
