Winnipeg Police Service Major Crimes Unit is investigating after a pair of male suspects tried to carjack a man sitting in his vehicle in a St. James Street parking lot.
Police say they were called to the 1300 block of St. James Street after a male spotted two suspects trying the door handles of several parked vehicles around 4:00 am Wednesday, April 22, 2020. The male honked his horn in an effort to scare the suspects away but both suspect “aggressively approached” his vehicle and tried to get inside. The male drove away.
A second male in a truck also honked his horn in an effort to make the suspects flee however that caused one of the suspects to come over to the man, lift his shirt and display what appeared to be a firearm.
The suspects then took off on their bikes.
As officers were searching for the suspects they came across a third male attempting to flag them down. The male told the police that he had been attacked about an hour earlier by the suspects who had tried to carjack him.
The victim had been stabbed in the leg and was not able to reach help because the suspects made off with his keys and cell phone.
The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition.
Police say the victim’s vehicle was not taken because the suspects could not drive it due to it having a manual transmission.
Police are looking for a male in his mid-20s wearing a black coloured baseball cap, a black half mask and a black coloured jacket. The second suspect is only described as an adult male.
Police think the incidents are related and are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information that can help investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219.
