Two teens dead after falling through ice on Delta Marsh

RCMP are investigating the death of an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old male in the Delta Marsh area early Wednesday morning, October 21, 2020.

Police say the pair had tried to enter a home on Cherry Road in Delta, Manitoba and told the homeowner they they were looking for the home of someone they knew. The homeowner called police.

When officers arrived the teens had left the home but were thought to still be in the area. Police conducted a search and heard calls of distress coming from the marsh.

A police dog team was called in and was able to track the pair into an area of the marsh that was ice-covered. Officers came upon an area where something or someone had broken through the ice. The pair had not resurfaced and they were assumed to have drowned.

The bodies of the pair were recovered later on Wednesday.

RCMP continue to investigate
