Winnipeg Police Homicide detectives have arrested two suspects in connection to the killing of 21-year-old Mohammed Yonis Ali.
Yonis was shot on the 800 block of Alfred Avenue on August 26, 2020 and died from his injuries in hospital two days later.
In May of this year, investigators released a surveillance video that shows two suspects walking along a back lane. As one of the suspects steps out of view gunshots can be heard.
On August 25, 2021, investigators arrested 24-year-old Arturo Andres Carrasco followed by the arrest of 25-year-old Nootin Kasipositmikies Fontaine eight days later in Victoria Beach. Both men have been charged for their alleged involvement with First Degree Murder.
Carrasco was also the subject of a number of outstanding warrants for three unrelated shooting incidents in 2019.
On July 20, 2019 he allegedly fired a gun into a parked vehicle on Johnson Avenue slightly injuring two occupants.
On September 24 of that year, he allegedly fired gunshots from a vehicle at two men on Jarvis Avenue after he had been in a confrontation with them earlier at a Mains Street bar. One of the victims was hit in the upper body but survived his injuries after being hospitalized.
The third incident happened three days later on September 27, 2019 when he got into an argument with an adult male. Carrasco allegedly shot the male.
Police say that they may be laying additional charges in the case against those who helped Fontaine an Carrasco.
